Questions, answered.
What is the difference between SOL and wSOL?
SOL is Solana's native currency. wSOL represents SOL in a Token account for apps that require the standard Token interface.
Can I unwrap only part of my wSOL?
Not from the associated wSOL account. Transfer the amount you want to keep to another wSOL Token account first, then unwrap the associated account's remaining balance.
Does unwrapping return account rent?
Yes. Closing the associated wSOL account returns its full wSOL balance and that account's rent reserve to your native SOL wallet.
Move between native SOL and app-ready wSOL.
Wrap SOL when a Solana application needs a standard Token account rather than native SOL. The requested amount moves into your associated wSOL account, which is created when needed.
Unwrap wSOL when you need native SOL again. The unified unwrapping flow closes the associated wSOL account, returns its entire balance and rent reserve, and cannot preserve a partial balance in that account.
